A Cleaner Look

Room by room, piece by piece, I like to make changes in our home. I tackled a small project in the laundry room not long ago. Don't get me wrong there is still work to do, but like I said piece by piece. When we moved it our home a brown shelf was left out in my husbands shed. He was going to throw it away and I immediately said, "No don't, I want it." So, I put it in the laundry room thinking I liked the brown rustic look of it. It didn't take me long to realize I did not love it like I thought I did.  So, a change was in order.
This was the shelf before. You are also getting a glimpse of how this table had become a catch all.
As you can see we need a cleaner look.
After painting the shelf white the space looks like a new space (to me anyway).
Everything is organized now. I took advantage of the drawers on this desk and put what was needed for the computer area in there. Maybe I can tackle the drawers next? I love this look, it looks fresh, clean and simple.

Take It Outdoors

When I'm at the Thriftshop I'm on the hunt for cheap furniture I can redo. A few weeks ago I went and I found this table. As soon as I saw it I knew I wanted it to go outside and serve as a endtable to our patio chairs.  I also loved the sticker on it that said $2!  The lady who helped me out to the car (I guess she felt sorry for me carrying the table, my ten month old and ushering my three year old out the door) said what will you do with this? I told her I was going to redo it and use it as a patio table. The look was priceless, I knew she thought that I was crazy. Little did she know it is the small things for me.
This is a look at the table before. Yes, it is a maroon color.
A closer look.
An even closer look, lovely right?
I simply spray painted the table black, easy as that. After my little tables paint job I set it in place out on the patio. We placed it between two of our patio chairs to function as an endtable. I also find that it provides me another place to decorate with plants outdoors.
It is a perfect fit, and it really does serve a purpose. In the mornings and evenings this location is shaded, it is perfect for coffee and a book!
A $2 table, a $1 can of spray paint and voila!

A Little Taste of Fall

The weather has cooled here and it is beginning to feel like Fall! I love Fall it is my favorite season. It is nice weather, holidays are around the corner, and it is football season! This new weather plus my friend has inspired me through her blog http://thehawvers.blogspot.com/search/label/Fall to begin decorating at the Purdy house. I took a trip to the Dollar Tree and got what I thought I needed, pulled out my Fall decorations (I get this seasonal decorating from my Momma), and went to work.
I bought the votive, raffia, and popcorn at the Dollar Tree. I used a candle I already had. This decoration cost me a total of $3.
This glass vase and the candy corn came from the Dollar Tree also. Again I already had the candle, and the raffia went a long way (I still have some left over). This decoration was a total of $2. Not too bad right?
I loved them so much I decided to set them on the entry table to greet our guests. I had purchased my P pumpkin from Hobby Lobby last year when it went 50% off. I had been pining over it for a while, I just needed it to go on sale. I had some leaves left over from last Fall, so I decided to use them around the P pumpkin, and set my new decorations off to the side. My Momma told me you decorate with just one item, or put things together in groups of three. I try hard to stick to that advice.
The part of decorating that I love is taking things I already have and creating something new and decorative. I'm so lucky that Hobby Lobby puts all their stuff on sale (eventually), so I wait. The floral arrangement I waited on until it too was 50% last year, then I snatched it up. I like to have my babes pumpkin pictures displayed during the Fall, so that's what the picture is. The picture is setting on a stack of books covered with a Fall towel I had stored away. The pumpkin is one that my Mother-In-Law got me years ago when we were shopping in Houston, it is beautiful and I think of her every year when I set it out.

I hope I have inspired you, or maybe my friends blog has inspired you, or perhaps the BELOVED Pintrest has inspired you. Whatever the case I can't wait to see what Fall looks like at your house. Leave a comment and your blog, I love to see how other people decorate.

A New Obsession

I just wanted to share what we see on a daily basis at the Purdy house. I little boy dressed up. The only thing is that you never know what he will be dressed in. Sometimes he is a construction worker, a football player, a cowboy, batman, or even a pirate. This guy keeps us entertained nonstop!
Hopefully the Lord brings some kind of humor into your life today.

1st Day of Mother's Day Out!

We are so thrilled that our small town has a new Mother's Day Out program. I am so excited for the ministry in our community and also for my sweet boy to get to go. We decided that we were only going to send Rylan for now. I am taking this opportunity to get some one on one in with my Reesey Cup.  Rylan's first day was last Thursday, and he was so very excited. We have just been calling it school for him, we weren't for sure how he would grasp the concept of MDO. I let him pick what kind of backpack and lunchbox he would get for school. He chose Spiderman, which Tyson and I found hilarious, because he has never even seen the movie. But that is what he chose so that is what his Momma got him.
Wednesday night Tyson gave the babes their baths and I set up Rylan's new lunchbox, backpack, new spiderman PJ's and a goody bag of educational gifts for him. When he got out of bath he went in Reesey's room (where we put on jammies and get ready for bed), and he found his new school stuff. He was so excited he looked at us with a wide mouth, huge smile, and said, "Ohhhh my goodness!" It was priceless.

We packed his very first lunch and then we all three left him a note (Reesey left hers on his napkin inside his lunchbox).
This is how excited he was the morning of.
Here is our boy entering his very first program, and not to mention his first steps of leaving his Mommy. I know, I know, boohoo. But I just need to tell you this was hard for his Momma.
Here is our boy posing, and all ready for his day!
This is one of Rylan's teachers Ms. Maggie, he took her an apple but wouldn't give it to her just yet.

When I went to pick him up, they said that he was awesome. On the way to the car he told me, "That school was great!" That is exactly what we wanted his reaction to be. He even told us yesterday morning that he wanted to go to school. As difficult as it was for this Momma to let go for the first time, I know how important it is for my baby boy. And after hearing his excitement for it, I know it was the right thing.
